Presented by Ann Arbor Film Festival & Kerrytown Concert House for EdgeFest 2008

“LIVE CINEMASPORTS: Improv Music Meets Improv Film” is a free 1-day event that challenges participants to create an original 3-minute silent video in 10 hours or less. The resulting works will be screened the same evening with EdgeFest musicians providing live, improvised musical scores.

This is an opportunity for both aspiring and experienced filmmakers to come together and inspire each other’s creativity. It also promises to be a fun, lively evening of film and music for those who attend the screening. Completed works will be judged by an AAFF All-Star panel and prizes handed out for top artistic merit.

Filmmakers will meet at 9:00 a.m. to receive their instructions for the event, as well as three thematic ingredients they must include in their video. This is the “Iron Chef” of filmmaking as participants will have 10 hours to conceive, shoot, and edit a 3-minute video. Each filmmaking team must rely on their own equipment and deliver a completed piece on DVD or mini-dV for screening. Videos are due by 7:30pm at the screening location and will be shown in the order they were received starting at 8:30pm. Top videos (along with their recorded soundtracks) will also get posted to the Cinemasports website, alongside completed work from other Cinemasports events around the world.

It’s free admission to participate in both the competition and attend the evening screening. Following the final film at 9:30pm, Kerrytown Concert House will feature a concert by the Hamiet Bluiett Quintet. Admission is $20. Ann Arbor Film Festival members will receive free admission to this performance.

EDGEFEST 2008 is part of the Kerrytown Concert House’s free series, “The Fringe at the Edge,” which is sponsored in part by a grant from the National Endowment for Arts.
